Erba/Herbs
searching for symbols of power & eternity amid the ruins of ancient Rome
and later eras, I found myself focusing instead on the vestiges of more
transient phenomena. floral ornamentation was once a major element of
sculptural decoration. as living things, plants grow and decay in shorter
periods than architectural monuments, intended for 1000 years, but
generally lasting only a few centuries. over generations nature survives
the gigantic ruins of former cultures. in the series Erba, found (fragments
of) real plants are photographed to become artefacts themselves.
the photo-series is part of a larger block of works (photography, video,
text, objects) conceived during a 3 month stay in Rome in Spring 2010
