on site, on line und on air
On the 21st of March, the day of anti-racism and the equinox, in the
towns of Erfurt and its neighbour Weimar, there was a number of
works realised within the position of the GATEways concept. A number
of artists, who work in the realms of radio, public space and internet,
came together to put their work to practice.
The free, independent local radio, "Radio F.R.E.I" acted as a node in
Erfurt. The Limona, an old factory building in Weimar, that has 6
stories with technical resources from the Bauhaus-University served as the place for the event. Radio
F.R.E.I. is a collective initiative, and was in this sense a
process for all radio participants.
On the 21st of March, F.R.E.I. broadcasted from 6:00 - 14:00 and
from 20:00 till 24:00 on 96,2 MHz UKW and on 90,45 MHz Cable. Over
the internet, it was broadcasted, uninterrupted, the entire day
and night. The sun rose at 6:15 on the 21st.
Herewith, the soundinstallation "einStimmen" by Johannes
Sienknecht was opened, that was manifested in the Limona as an 8
channel space-sound-installation, and as a mono-MPEG-stream in
the internet. F.R.E.I. transmitted the sound from the installation on
Radio from sunup until 7:30.
The public space in Erfurt was creatively formed on the Domplatz by the artists from the Ethiopian
cultural association, Adefra, and the youngest generation of Hip-Hop musicians from E.G.O. Themes of
migration and cultural transfer were considered by the artists, like in the dialog of a Russian poet
and a Spanish musician, that was simultaneously realised in the radio studio.
