• the advertising medium for the project in all stages from the beginning onward: as permanently updated, continually growing homepage, which traces the project during the developmental process; prepares the investigations, background information and such; acts as a forum for discussion; and, in particular, connects the links of all platforms involved in the project,

• the transport medium for the sound events during the central event on 21 March 2000 between the locations involved (MPG and RealAudio live - Streams). The main idea of GATEways is the live intermingling of acoustic events from various places. This can only be made possible by means of the internet without enormous financial investments,

• a stage for the event on 21 March 2000, on which users from all over the world can also experience a manifestation of GATEways in its network and can even influence it in part,

• the medium of communication among the artists involved and also the audience during the event on 21 March 2000,

• the medium of documentation, which allows for the preparation and archiving of the overall event in all its complexity, following which it is available on line anytime. Simultaneously, the archive serves as a public databank for subsequent projects.

• die Plattform (künstlerischer) Projektentwicklung in vernetzter Form (mit den KooperationspartnerInnen),

• das Veröffentlichungsmedium für das Projekt in allen seinen Stadien von seinem Beginn an: als permanent upgedatete, ständig wachsende Homepage, die das Projekt in seinem Entstehungsprozess verfolgt, Recherchen, Hintergrundinformationen und Verwandtes aufbereitet, als Diskussionsforum fungiert und vor allem über Links sämtliche am Projekt beteiligte Plattformen einfach vernetzt,

• das Transportmedium für die Klangereignisse während des Zentralevents am 21. 3. 2000 zwischen den beteiligten Orten (MPG und RealAudio live - Streams). Der zentrale Gedanke von GATEways ist die Liveverschränkung von akustischen Ereignissen an verschiedensten Orten. Dies ist nur mit dem Medium Internet ohne gigantischem finanziellen Aufwand möglich,

• eine Bühne des Events am 21. 3. 2000, auf der UserInnen in aller Welt eine Manifestation von GATEways in seiner Vernetzung miterleben und teilweise beeinflussen können,

• das Kommunikationsmedium zwischen beteiligten KünstlerInnen und auch Publikum während des Events am 21. 3. 2000,

• das Dokumentationsmedium, in dem das Gesamtevent in all seiner Komplexität aufbereitet und archiviert wird und in dem es dann jederzeit on line zugänglich ist. Gleichzeitig fungiert das Archiv als offene Datenbank für Folgeprojekte.
